I’ve read all your books, just completing Divisadero which I thoroughly enjoyed. You mention the song ‘Season of the Witch’ in the book. I’d be most curious to know which version you particularly like.
I love Running in the Family. There are so many images that are sublime in this novel like the reflections of the circling fans on the silver spoons, and the line that deals with his grandmother’s death, how she died in the arms of a Jacaranda tree. Fabulous. The English Patient is also a sweeping novel of love and loss. It has everything, my fav historian, the war, love, deciet, avaiation romance, you name it! I prefer his earlier writing but have loved them all, and I found him when I purchased The Cinnamon Peeler. Sometimes however I feel let down a little by his endings. His beginnings are stronger than his endings but usually you are sooo swept up in the language that it doesn’t matter. Fav writer by far and he uses all five senses to create stories bursting with colour and passion. I wonder if he teaches?
